Register for an FCC FRN

Before taking the exam, you need a Federal Registration Number (FRN) from the FCC. You can register for free on the FCC CORES website. It takes only 5 minutes.

Take Practice Exams

Your last 4 practice exams should be 85% or better before taking your exam. The passing score is 74%, but this gives you confidence going into the test.

We recommend using HamStudy.org to study with; you can sign up for a COMPLETELY FREE account. We recommend you see 90-95% of the material with the last 4 practice exams at 85% or better.

Other options are HamTestOnline and Ham Radio Prep, these are both good sites to use however they do cost money. We have no affiliations & receive no money if you sign up with any of them.

Request for Special Needs: If you have any special needs, we are happy to offer reasonable accommodations to help you succeed, including support for sight-impaired applicants. Please reach out before your exam so we can make any necessary preparations.

You may take more than one exam per session. One exam fee covers the next level test if you decide to go for a level up in the same session!! However, if you fail and want to attempt the test again, you will need to pay another exam fee. Please let us know when you register if you plan to take more than one exam so that we can plan for the time appropriately.
